Exploiting Feign Death To Pull
A monk can also use nerve strike to split pull. Nerve strike stuns a target. Monk draws away the adds and the raid can safely pull the stunned target. Monk flops to reset his target. Monks are usually a bit too squishy to do this with raid mobs but it is sometimes used to solo split or in groups. Other classes, especially tanks can also use stuns plus leashing to split and they have the advantage of surviving a hit or two without dying.
Always pull in defensive stance. A good parry sword equipped will allow you more evasion and often allow you to dodge or parry melee attacks. Spells are the hardest as most monks dont have good spell resists or mitigation. You have a few really good abilities that allow you better chance of dodging as well Reed in the Wind, Iron Skin (big mitigation increase for 15? seconds) and Find the Center are great there is also Drunken Stagger and Swaying Step.
A few other things- proximity aggro at 55 you can often split some mobs by inching up and just proximity aggroing one of them. IF you do not attack and back out quicky when the mob comes for you allows you to aggro only one mob and split this way. Note: In APW some mobs are linked and both will come.
Take advantage of geometry to give yourself distance- a spell using mob will not cast if you break the line of sight. This helps eliminate the problem of mobs stand back and casting spells and gives you more room to work with.
Nerve strike is a good tool for splitting 2 linked mobs. Nerve strike one and popup and run the other back to the group which is out of aggro range for the two you are splitting. When the group is engaged on the one you pulled back FD before the first mob you Nerve Struck wakes up- on a sucessful FD you will wipe aggro on the nerve struck mob. This requires good timing between yourself and the Main Tank but works well if you have a Tank that understands and can execute. The two mobs have to be out of social aggro range of each other before the "target" mob is engaged, and you have to sucessfully FD before the other wakes.
